Snooper Serial Number Location
Having just been caught by a mobile speed trap on a quiet road just over the limit, this has been the last straw. With what seems like almost weekly changes to road speed limits, by Local Authorities, it is becoming an impossibility not to get caught at some point. In the 1 mile stretch of road I got caught on, it went from 30 to 60 to 40 to 30 to 40 to 60! So, having researched a lot of speed camera detectors, I opted for the Snooper 4 Zero Elite based on the following: 1) You have to have a GPS-based system these days - radar / laser are no longer effective when used alone. 2) The Database Subscription is Free for Life 3) Daily updates of the Database are available 4) The system has both Laser and Radar detection (including rearward facing) 5) It has clear spoken voice warnings 6) It shows range to and from the camera, has a nice subtle OLED display 7) The individual Radar bands can be selected or deselected and the alarm can be easily muted with a quick touch to the top of the unit. I used to have a Super Snooper Signature Series, many moons ago, but of course with modern laser guns and cameras, once you've been targeted, it's more or less game over.
This page will ask for the serial number of your Snooper sat nav, you can find this on the back of the unit below the barcode. Review of Callaway uPro Go golf GPS device. The 4 Zero Elite however, combines the benefit of GPS built in. So it knows where you are and compares your location in real time against the Aura Database of Fixed and Mobile speed cameras, as well as known High Risk Zones. The radar and laser detection provide additional backup and can determine if the cameras that use radar / laser are actually active. In addition, if you are travelling on a busy road or a motorway / dual carriageway for example and there happens to be a mobile car or van out - you may pick up the radar/ laser 'scatter' from a vehicle ahead that has been targeted, so if the mobile speed trap has not been entered on the database (is a new location for example) there is that backup of being warned up to a mile ahead, so you can make an informed choice.
The unit is very simple to use and the default settings are ok for most out of the box - except you MUST ensure you update the speed camera database first. This is simple - just install the software from the CD included and connect up the Snooper. Once you have registered your serial number with the online database, you can then download the updated as often as you want. An included mini USB cable is included to do this. So I parked up and saved the position using my car's Sat Nav GPS coordinates. So after contacting Snooper support as to how I get this position uploaded I finally got an email advising of the European site to do this. So I contacted customer[at]snooper.eu and have received several emails from the rep, asking for my serial number and saying they would update me. I have not heard anything back from them in 2 weeks, so have sent another location on to their cameras[at]snooper.eu address as advised in the first email and this has not had a reply, nor has the follow up email I sent asking for an acknowledgement. Not a good start. So I am going to contact the rep and advise her that nobody is bothering to reply at the other 'Camera' address and see what she says, I understand from their website that they are planning to consolidate their websites into one - but there really needs to be somebody focussing on the customer. My view is: If I am taking the time and trouble, going out of my way to notify them of coordinates of known mobile camera sites and do their job for them, at the very least, I would expect some confirmation.
I will be going out this weekend again to see if the first hotspot has been added - if not I will be contacting them again. So at present, I am deducting a star for the lack of customer feedback and unanswered emails. I will see how things go before revising this review at a later date. The one person in Customer Service (Emma) has as least been helpful and responded to emails - but I suspect the issues are more on the technical camera database updating side that need urgent improvements.
