Hp Serial Port Pinout
Hi, My apologies if this has already been covered, but I couldn't find it during a search. I've got an HP MSA 2012i that I bought second hand to learn virtualization; unfortunately I can't seem to login to the console.
I've tried the two usual accounts (manage & admin) but it appears the passwords have been changed. It's a bit tough for me to spend ~$300 on the serial cable so I was hoping I could make my own as it will only be used once. Does anybody have the pinout arrangement?

Many thanks for the help! Scott Alan Miller wrote: SCI wrote: However, if the cable is indeed a basic dumb cable, why such a high price tag (~$300)?
That's common for uncommon cables. Anyone who is really desperate will just make their own and large shops will just suck it up and buy one to keep from spending time making their own or figuring it out. Believe it or not, it costs a Fortune 100 over $300 to hand make an uncommon cable.

An adapter is used to convert the serial signal to.
When your billable rate is $240 an hour a lot of mundane time consuming simple things don't make sense. Just wanted to follow-up with this. I purchased a straight-through micro-DB9 to DB9 cable and plugged it in with no success. Tried all sorts of HyperTerminal settings and even different PC's in case the serial port was bad but had no luck. Time was of the essence so I made a quick mod to the cable pins and everything worked flawlessly; reset the password and now I can configure via the web browser to my hearts content. For those who ever need this info in the future, the following connection works.
